PSYCHOLOGY CAMPUS FACILITIES

The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS) is one
of the largest and busiest VA medical centers in the country.
The North Little Rock Division campus is located on a bluff overlooking the Arkansas River. The property was developed as a
United States Army cavalry fort in the latter part of the last century. Many of the old buildings are listed with the National Register of Historic Places and, having been renovated, are used
as administrative buildings. Located on the North Little Rock campus, the Eugene J. Towbin Healthcare Center is a large four-story building, which was constructed in 1983. It houses all of
this division's inpatient beds, and it is in this building that most of the psychologists' and interns clinical offices are located. This building also contains a cafeteria, canteen store,
library, small bowling alley, barbershop, and indoor walking trail. A fitness and exercise center, available to staff and interns on a 24 hour basis, is also located on this campus. Building 89,
adjacent to Building 170, is the home of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program and the Vocational Rehabilitation Program. The grounds of the North Little Rock are large and contain two small fishing lakes,
a nine-hole golf course, an employee fitness center, a fitness trail, a softball field, and tennis, volleyball and basketball courts. The North Little Rock campus contains the medical center's psychiatric,
addictions, PTSD, intermediate medicine, rehabilitation, domiciliary, and nursing home beds, and serves psychiatric outpatients through the Mental Health Clinic. One of the four Primary Care Medicine
outpatient clinics is also located the North Little Rock Division campus. Seventeen psychologists, three neuropsychology technicians and two psychology clerks are stationed at the North Little Rock Campus.
There is a neuropsychology laboratory, rooms for patient-administered computerized testing, and intern access to staff for statistical support. |
The John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital is located on the Little Rock campus, and is approximately
eight miles (15 minutes) away from the North Little Rock campus. It is adjacent to, and physically connected to, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. This medical center houses inpatient wards including
acute medicine, oncology, cardiology, surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, and intensive care units, as well asserving hemodialysis patients and many medical and surgical outpatient clinics, including primary care
clinics, a women's clinic, and an active emergency room. A cafeteria and a canteen store are also available at this campus. Six psychologists, one neuropsychology technician and one clerk are stationed on this campus.
This site also includes a neuropsychological laboratory, a patient testing room with three computers, and intern access to a SPSS statistical program on computers at this division.
Both campuses have ample psychology offices and each intern is assigned a private office, containing typical office furniture, including testing
table, telephone with private voicemail, and a computer which allows access to patient records includes progress notes, consult reports, laboratory findings, imaging films and reports, as well as access to remote
data from other VA facilities. Some psychological tests can be administered and scored on computer where psychologist and interns can easily access the results. Email access, internet access, and a virtual library
for literature searches are also available on each intern’s computer. Both campuses house a medical library and interns can gain access to the UAMS library located beside the Little Rock campus. If a book or
article cannot be found via the onsite libraries or virtual libraries, an online inter-library loan request can be made. Interns have free parking at both campuses and the VA shuttle bus is available for travel between
divisions, leaving each campus once per hour. |
